Final Draft

This edit wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be after getting the comments back from the previous draft. There weren’t much substantial changes to be made for this video. However, there are some parts that just needed to be reworked at. The first thing I did was add something for the blank part after the fourteen seconds of the rough draft. I was tempted to add in some images but I figured it wouldn’t do me any good as I couldn’t figure out what image or images would help fit that empty spot. I couldn’t do another video of my desktop since my gaming screen capture could only do video games. I had another screen capture that was built in, but it didn’t respond when I press the command for it.

So I decided to patch up a earlier footage of my desktop and fill in the gap. The next part was something new I added. I had decided to arrange my brother who is nearly my age to play a session of borderlands 2 with me. After getting some good footage between him and I, I opened skype and recorded a short interview that contained his thoughts about the game. It provided some good insight on the game and the topic. I went through the clip and cut it down to where it showed the best parts before adding in the interview. Then, I decided to go ahead and record myself giving a brief summary of my co-op gameplay, who I’m playing with, and how he enjoys gaming as much as I do. Then, I add in the part where I give the mic to my brother.

The last part was where I give the summary of why I enjoyed borderlands 2 with some of the best footage of gameplay. I arranged for it to end where loot rains from the sky with fireworks lighting it up to create the end result of a good game of borderlands 2.

Rough draft

I’m going to be quite honest, I had a much more organized idea when I jumped on the idea of doing a video based on one of my core hobbies; video games. I decided to make a video about borderlands 2 and thought that it be easy as my computer was capable of video recording what’s on the screen. Unfortunately, it was tough to do so for two reasons. The first issue was to figure out what clips to record and what to cut in order to tell a focused and entertaining narrative. The second was finding how to narrate this in voice as my video recording software couldn’t record any of my voice reactions as I played the game.

I planned to introduce the game with game play footage with a friend. However, my friend wasn’t available so we could record awesome footage of great co-op looting. With that said, I improvised what I could do and took care of the two challenges to this draft.

I took care of the first issue was by figuring out which aspects of the game I should demonstrate on the screen. The tough part wasn’t recording my gameplay, but to get to certain levels as there are chances to show off how great it was. With time against me, I felt I could record where my skill could take me, and I decided to make sub clips out of the parts that told the story well. There was one other moment where I took gameplay footage of another game, call of duty, to show how these two games are very different from each other.

The second issue was much difficult to figure out. Mostly because I had to time out my narration to match with the game play footage. I decided to make several separate audio files and patch them up at audition before I insert along the footage. It wasn’t easy to do. Overall, it helped tell a brief story of a amazing game and its features.

Sample Storyboard: The story of my gaming hobby

Visual Elements Audio Elements
0:00-0:12  I introduce the topic of Gaming on why I prefer non-competitive multiplayer games. I have a shot of my mouse hovering over my games library and skipping ones that don’t fit my criteria I’ll likely use a voice over to talk to myself as I pick over to my favorite game to play, borderlands
0:13-0:25  I go on to explain about what’s special about the game, showcasing how there are many weapons and ways to play the game I show on screen pictures and or brief shots of certain weapons in play as I say their name quickly.
0:26-1:00  I show how it can be played with a friend. I show a clip of me playing the game with a close friend as we work together to take on a boss for a chance to get good loot. I go give a brief introduction to my partner in crime as he plays alongside with me. We give a brief description of what’s going to happen.
1:00-1:30 A shot of the boss spewing out a boat load of good weapons. We look around and collect the weapons and gear that’s good enough to use later on the adventure. I capture audio of a brief conversation between my friend and I as we sort out loot we found. It ends off with us going on our separate ways.

Final Draft

This draft wasn’t a couple of tweaks and elbow grease here and there. There was alot of work that was done to make sure this audio story was better than the rough draft. For starters, I decided it be best to scrap what I had for the rough draft and wrote a different script.

This time, the script told how writing lead to wattpad and how that website gave an unique experience and changed my life. I decided to create the story into two seperate audio files.

Then, I decided it be best to have another voice in this story. I figured this would work since I would have another voice that talked about their experience on wattpad and it would show how a lot of people are online writing wonderful stories and sharing them with hundreds of people.

I scheduled a time and recorded their experience with a simple question. After I got the audio I needed, I listened to what was recorded. The voice of the interviewee was great, definitely would keep the audience entertained. However, there were a couple of pauses, awkward phrasing, and some stuttering. I went with the razor tool and cut away those parts, then patched together the rest of the interview. one part was down, but two more were to go.

The second part was the first half of the story, the part where I introduce myself and my hobby. This time, I recorded myself before going back and cutting away the stuttering and hiccups before moving the file bar before the audio where I gave my one question interview.

The second part was shorter than the former as it was the closer to the story. It didnt take much editing as the other, but I still had to cut away any awkward parts, any fumbled speech. In the end, I think I have created the right story that talked about my online writing experience.

Rough Draft

To be honest, I had an idea for this audio project of explaining one aspect of myself in clear and straight answer of my hobbies in writing. I felt a simple straight to the point approach would be the way to talk about my story. There wasn’t a lot of focus put on any special effects or little things that would make it pop. It was just a lot of preparation and keeping the voice good and clear for the listener.

First off was to write a well thought out script for me to say. This was critical since I had only 1 to 3 mins of me explaining this story. As I wrote my script, I narrowed the topic down to three things. The first was the introduction, bringing up about my writing hobby and how I explain to people when I write stories online. The second was a quick nod on what the website that I publish my stories on, wattpad. I didn’t plan to have a report on what is was, just a brief summary.

The next part was something I knew would be very critical to this story. I explained what I’ve gained from Wattpad such as a large number of people reading, a good amount of votes or likes on the book, and the comments that came with it. I ended that final part of the story to encourage anyone listening to try it out as it can be fun, rewarding, and most of all productive.

As I finished writing up the script, I finally decided it was time to record myself reading it. I keep my tone between informative to excited and encouraging as I got to the end. I made sure the environment was calm and quiet and drank some water before I record myself.

Once I finish running through my line in the right tone, I stop and adjust the bar to make sure my voice is audible for people to hear clearly.

Final Draft

After looking at some pointers from my lovely peers in my group, I see I wasn’t far off from improving. Nevertheless, it didn’t mean there wasn’t a lot of work put in to make this chart that displayed two of my great hobbies along with my initials at the top in a cubic shape. I took a look and see what needed to be done. The short solution is to redo some of the drawings from paintbrush into pen and resizing and positioning the walls. I would like to lend a hand and lead on a journey of how I improved my logo one step at a time.

The first thing I took care of was the squares. They didn’t line up properly and didn’t have a size that fit with the rest. It took me some time to figure out how long they are despite they are on an angle. I decided it be best to turn the two walls from rectangle into squares and scale down the length and angle until it matches it up perfectly. It really wasn’t easy to do as the program kept locking the part into the wrong place.

Next, I decided to give all of my drawn objects an overhaul, starting with the music note. I used the pen tool and created a straight outline of the note and then adjust the curves to make it more round than flat. Next was my initials which are all redone in pen too and made sure it angles well with the cube and fits in the frame. Finally, the game controller was saved for last and it took a lot of work in. With the pen tool, I was able to draw a sleeker image of the controller and created curves on the handles before giving it a little decoration with the buttons and joy stick.

Once I stepped back, it felt good to see the way it came out. It came out better than I imagined.

Logo rough draft

The following image is a logo for my blog. It’s supposed to tell about my hobbies and interests that center around me. It took some time to setting it up and drawing the images on hand.

I decided its best to make the image by starting off three squares, using the rectangular tool. Once I made my rectangles, I used the direct selection tool to scale the size and adjust the corners to form three squares into one three-dimensional cube. This part of the process was a bit tedious as I had to make the squares line up into one solid cube and not look cluttered and a mess. I also changed the colors of the outline from black to a orange color and made it as my choice for secondary color.

Not all three of the squares had the same size and gave them different shades of blue, going from bright to dark tones of blue to emphasize the 3D look. I then added a another set of three, but smaller squares and place them on top as the proper background for the images.

Next, I decided to work on the top square by sketching out a 3-D image of my two initials using the brush tool and made each letter either yellow or orange. The left square was a game controller with a wire running to a wall, all drawn with the brush tool and using two kinds of silver to create the base of the controller. Then, I added in some decorative things such as colorful buttons and a joystick.

For the square on the right, I decided to sketch out a music note to show my appreciation for music and art. I tried to add in a book, but it was tough to pull off an image that can fit onto the square.
